College Fair for 11th Grade

On March 10, 2010, the 11th graders are invited to attend a college fair at Lehman College Apex Center. There will be over 50 colleges and universities there, represented by an admissions counselor from each of the schools. Many students will get a chance to speak to these counselors and find out what programs are available, as well as find out admission requirements. They will leave and return during the school day.

All 11th graders will be responsible to write a forum about their experiences on that day.

Portfolio Review

Each of you will be responsible to set up an appointment with me to review your transcripts and portfolios. Please make sure that you have the correct number of credits to continue onto the next grade level. To avoid any issues in the next year, we must go over your entire record, which may include transfer credits. I will be available before and after school, as well as during lunch periods.

Early Decision and Early Action Choice

Early Decision (ED) and Early Action (EA) plans can be beneficial to students- BUT only to those who have thought through their college options carefully and have a clear preference for one institution.

Early Decision plans are binding- a student who is accepted MUST attend the college. You can only apply to one early decision school.

Early Action plans are nonbinding- a student receives an early response to their application but do not have to commit to the college until the normal reply date of May 1st. Each school with an EA program differs in their guidelines and policies.

Please research your list of schools. Some schools do not offer the EA/ED program.

If you will be applying for early decision or early action, please let Ms. Shim know so that she can begin your college process early.
