High School Graduation Requirements

Overview

  •  Although the Regents exams were cancelled due to Covid-19 in 2020 and 2021, seniors must still complete their required coursework in order to receive credits towards graduation.
    • A Regents exemption due to COVID-19 will grant you a Regents Diploma.
    • If you have received WA in any of the 9 Regents required for an Advanced Regents Diploma, you are still eligible for the Advanced Regents Diploma.
  • You must pass your classes.
    • Graduation Requirements: 44 Credits
    • Focus on English 12, Economics, Total 6 Science Credits, Total 6 Math Credits, Total 4 Phys Ed Credits, Total 7 Elective Credits, any Art/ Music classes.
  • When schools transitioned to remote learning due to the COVID-19 pandemic in March 2020, the NYCDOE implemented the parent/guardian choice policy which gave parents/guardians the option to replace their student’s passing final grades with ‘CR’ (credit) to avoid penalizing students for a drop in performance for factors beyond their control. This policy remains in effect for high school students to provide safeguards as students and families continue to recover from the COVID-19 pandemic and manage other out-of-school challenges.
  • Students and families also have the option to add/remove only the June 2021 exam numeric score to a WA at any time until they are discharged as graduates.
