What can families do to prepare for school during the summer?

We would like parents to click on the following link: NYC Family Guide

Parents can learn about each subject areas academic standards and expectations. They can also get tips on how to work with teachers to provide the best possible education for their child. Each family handbook is grade specific (9-12 is grouped together) and available in nine languages!

Please use this time to explore this website and the school blog as well!

School Supplies

EWSIS will supply all students with an official homework/project planner that must be used and reviewed by parents/guardians daily. Each will teacher has an individualized list of certain supplies that he/she will request from students. However, all EWSIS students can be observed using the following:

  • Composition notebooks
  • Black/blue pens
  • Pencils
  • Index cards
  • Highlighters
  • Covered sharpeners
  • Folders with two bottom pockets.
  • Our teachers also find it very helpful when students offer boxes of tissues and paper towels.

Transportation

There is an excellent link for parents on the DOE site that will explain, with visuals, how DOE busing works  - http://schools.nyc.gov/Offices/Transportation/ServicesandEligibility/BusTransportation/default.htm

There is yellow bus service only for 6th graders who live a mile or more from the school and still reside within District 25, or for students who are handicapped and require use bus accommodations.

If the child is a 7th or 8th grader, no yellow bus but he/she will receive a full metrocard if the distance is 1.5 miles or more.

Eligible students for yellow bus service or reduced metrocards will receive letters home.

Uniforms:

ORDER NOW TO ENSURE DELIVERY BEFORE SCHOOL BEGINS. Do not wait until Summer Bridge to purchase uniforms.

If you are unsure about sizing, it is a good idea to order a larger size. You can visit Ideal Uniform's office to purchase uniforms in person. The link below has more information.
