An East-West Poet

Posted On Wednesday, May 28, 2008

In remembrance of the Holocaust, Keyur Thakkur, a student in Ms. Braverman's 8th grade class wrote a beautiful and poignant poem.

My Heart Has Been Raped

by Keyur Thakkur

I was just sitting when they came.

They took my family away.

My mom couldn't walk

So she couldn't work.

When they shot her

My heart had been raped.

They took me on the train

With millions of people.

They trampled my brother

He lay dead on the floor

My heart had been raped.

We got to the camp

They made me go alone

Without my dad.

They took my sister

She was too little.

I am 15 years old

And my heart had been raped.

At the end I was the only one left

I didn't eat

I got too weak

I couldn't work

They wanted to kill me

But I was already dead on the inside

Because my heart had been raped.
