EWSIS Students Visit World Journal Art Gallery
Reprint From November 11, 2008 World Journal
(Reporter: Fang Meng)
Twenty-nine students from the East West School of International Studies visited The World Journal Art Gallery on November 10th. The students not only went to appreciate traditional Chinese paintings but also had the opportunity to learn from the Chinese brush painting master, Lei Laoshi. The students found the Chinese paintings interesting and at same time felt amazed and excited.
The leader of the group, Ms. Chang told this reporter that the 29 students have been studying Chinese as a foreign language for over one year. This field trip helped students learn more about Chinese culture besides what they had learned in the classroom. The students browsed the paintings excitedly and carefully. Later Lei Laoshi demonstrated how to draw plum flowers and trees to the students and the students paid close attention to him.
Corey Stanley, one of the 11th grade students, proudly presented his Chinese painting with his Chinese name on it. He said he liked the plum flower painting and enjoyed seeing how Mr. Lei drew it. This experience made him want to learn more about the Chinese language and gave him enthusiasm to investigate Chinese art history.
