Creating a link to another page

Overview: A link, or "hyperlink" is a segment of text or an image that, when clicked, opens a new URL (web address) in the browser. Links can open in the same page, replacing the referring content, or in a new, separate window. The designation of where the link opens is the link's "target."

Note: The website automatically creates hyperlinks for any text that begins with http:// or www. , so these instructions are for those who may wish to create more attractive links out of text or images.

To create a hyperlink:

1) Make sure you are creating a new post, or inside the editing window for a page. In order to edit page content, you will usually need to be the author of that page unless you are a site administrator.

2) In the text-area editor, highlight the text or image you wish to turn into a link.

3) Click on the button at the bottom of the text area and an "insert/edit link" toolbar will appear.

4) Type or paste the FULL URL (http://www.etc.com) for websites external to the www.ewsis.org or the RELATIVE URL (the part of the URL after www.ewsis.org...) for pages inside the ewisis.org (For example: for the URL http://www.ewsis.org/help , I can just enter "help")

5) Select the target window.

6) If you want the user to see a description when they hover over the link, give the link a title.

7) Click "Insert"

8) To edit a link, just place your cursor on the link and click again.
